The UAB Substance Abuse Program has several focus areas.
- Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities (TASC): Working to improve the criminal justice system through innovation, research and service. Includes adult (i.e. problem solving courts, community corrections, pretrial release) and youth (i.e. ASAP, prevention, juvenile drug court) programs.
- Beacon Addiction Treatment Center: Providing abstinence based intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents who abuse or are dependent on drugs or alcohol.
- Southern Coast Addiction Technology Transfer Center (SCATTC): Dedicated to improving addiction treatment through advancement of knowledge enhancing cultural appropriateness, ongoing assessment, forging partnerships and the dissemination and development of evidenced based services.
